GAMESDAY UK 2002 |
Background: Alright then, something diferent from my experience in Sydney. I am in England this year, and to be more specific, I am presently working in Birmingham. I hadn't initially paid much attention to all the advertisement regarding Gamesday as I for some reason had the impression that it would be held at Games Workshop's Lenton HQ. It was quite late in the day that it dawned on me that the event was being held in Birmingham's National Indoor Arena. So, scrounging a couple of last minute tickets, for my wife and myself, I decided to go. The last minute preparation meant that I was actually on call that weekend so couldn't spend too much time at the Gamesday. It also meant that I had missed all the planning for meet ups with members of the various clubs and chat boards. So my plan would be to surreptitiously steal in t the place quite late on the Sunday, after all the queues and throngs had died down and spend a couple of hours oggling at stuff. |
Games Day Dawns: So I strolled in late on Sunday morning, without having to wait too long in the queue outside which had dwindled to a very short tail. I was certainly taken aback at the size of the crowd inside the arena, particularly when compared the turnout in Sydney the year before. |
Another fact that really caught my attention was the number of stunning cloth banners that were hung from the balconeys above. Once again, never saw anything of that sort in Sydney. may be the Brits do know how to organize somethings.... |
On account of my late arrival I avoided areas that were very crowded. Both of us were somewhat daunted by the sheer size of the crowd as well as the size of the displays and battle scenes. I slowly gravitated towards the Forge World section, as I could spy the new Thunderhawk Gunship froma distance hovering majestically next to its old metallic counter part. Sadly they were both painted in Blood Angel's livery. |
