ABOUT THE PROGRAM & THE AWARDS

The origins of the Unforgiven Web Award program lies from my initial experience in creating this web site. As I have eluded elsewhere, I started out with a simple site designed to display my new Space Marine army and it rapidly snow balled in to the juggernaut you see before yourself. Knowing little about html coding or the technicalities of web page creation, I wondered how my own creation compared to the large number of great web sites that populate our world wide web.

It was around the same time that I discovered the presence of numerous web award programs and some web award rating programs. I found it exciting that other web masters would part with their precious time to evaluate web sites and give out awards. That was one way one could measure one's web work. I was even more amazed that such awards were rated by a number of rating programs which allowed web awards to be compared and classified according to their complexities.

I then started applying for many of such awards and while the majority didn't make the cut a handful did make it through and were awarded to this site. Those I am extremely proud of having received. As I understood the concepts of the various awards and their ratings tried to improve my web site along the lines described by many award sites and as a consequence began to receive some of the higher awards. However the one factor that remained constant was that although there were many 40K related web sites dishing out awards none of them were rated by any of the rating systems. Many actually awarded their award simply for all who requested the awards becoming more of a banner exchange in the process. It was that one fact that persuaded me to consider a true, well designed award that the good 40K might covet. To that end I have finally managed to create the "Unforgiven Web Awards" with the help of the members of the Inner Circle. I have on purpose limited the awards to those web sites that deal wholly or predominantly with the hobby of Warhammer 40,000. I may expand this to include Warhammer fantasy and other Science Fiction Gaming Sites at a later stage depending on the success of this award.

We felt that a good award should be sought after by the 40K web community for two reasons. Firstly it should be highly sought after due to the prestige of the award, which meant that it should be only awarded to well-designed sites that deserved it. The second factor was it would be sought after due to the graphics of the award itself. These are the two reasons that I apply for certain awards myself. We hope to have the awards rated by the two common rating systems in due course.
