INTRODUCTION:

The following tutorials were something I promised to do for Shadow Guard as part of the Raven Wing Project I am working on for him. Most are quick and easy. They aren't meant to give you tips on winning a golden demon or any other painting prize. They are however a way to have a decent looking army in a short amount of time. Many times in these tutorial your going to see non-GW paint names. I have nothing against GW paint, I think it is great stuff. The bottles for it on the other hand..bleh. So where possible I will include a GW equivalent (or close enough for government work) for the colors I use. That said, please understand that these are how I do these particular things. It is not the Games Workshop way, the Cool Mini or Not way, heck some might say it is not even the "right" way. All I can promise is that it works and if you choose to follow it, your army will at least be presentable on the table. Above anything though I hope that folks who are looking to start painting or improve their painting can learn something. So any comments / critiques you want to fire at me feel free: [ email: menshakhaine@hotmailcom ]

Step 10 - As with the robes I use Vallejo Ivory for the next color. At this point if you want you can stop adding color

Step 11 - The final color I have used and this is only on the very tips of the wings an eagles heads, is Skull White.
The following steps cover how to do the DA emblem on the shoulder pad. Unfortunately it doesn't photograph very well.  This way of doing white will work for just about any place that you want white on a mini as well.

Step 14. A base coat of Quaker Gray from Delta Ceramcoat is put down. GW Fortress gray will work as well.

Step 15. Over this a coat of GW Ghost Gray is put down.

Step 16. Covering about 3/4 of the GG, I put down a coat of 2 parts Ghost Gray/1 part Skull White.

Step 17. Again, covering about ¾ of the previous color, I use a mix of 50-50 Ghost Gray/Skull White.

Step 18. As with above I give it a final coat of 2 parts Skull White/1 part Ghost Gray.

Step 19. Capping it off with a thin highlight o Skull white.
Step 20 - 23 - At this point your ready to finish up the mini and get it ready for war.

Step 20. The DA Green is highlight first with a 50/50 mix of DA and Snot Green. This is followed by a smaller highlight of pure Snot Green.

Step 21. Black areas were highlighted using Deltas Nightfall Blue (Space Wolf Gray will work as well). The metal studs were picked out in Boltgun Metal at this time as well.

Step 22. The purity seal was finished up using the reds and whites that you'll find in the eye and robe sections. The writing was done with an 005 Micron Pen, but a thin detail brush will work just as well. A second squad decal was also added to the shoulder pad and given the same treatment as in the decal section of the tutorial.

Step 23. The base was finished off with a Chaos Black trim and the mini was then sealed with a double coat of GW Purity Seal.
