INTRODUCTION:

The following tutorials were something I promised to do for Shadow Guard as part of the Raven Wing Project I am working on for him. Most are quick and easy. They aren't meant to give you tips on winning a golden demon or any other painting prize. They are however a way to have a decent looking army in a short amount of time. Many times in these tutorial your going to see non-GW paint names. I have nothing against GW paint, I think it is great stuff. The bottles for it on the other hand..bleh. So where possible I will include a GW equivalent (or close enough for government work) for the colors I use. That said, please understand that these are how I do these particular things. It is not the Games Workshop way, the Cool Mini or Not way, heck some might say it is not even the "right" way. All I can promise is that it works and if you choose to follow it, your army will at least be presentable on the table. Above anything though I hope that folks who are looking to start painting or improve their painting can learn something. So any comments / critiques you want to fire at me feel free: [ email: menshakhaine@hotmailcom ]

Step 1 - Primer! Black prime as with most everything I do. In the case of Dark Angels this helps to give them a truly dark green appearance in the end.

Step 2 - Base coat. Obviously your base coat will be Dark Angel green. You can paint this on in a couple thin coats or spray it on with DA Green spray. For the sake of the tutorial I sprayed on green for this one.
Step 3 - For step 3 the entire mini gets a dark green ink wash. This helps to deepen the green and give it a bit of shine that I've always felt fits with the Dark Angel color scheme.
Step 4 - Step 4 involves putting  Ral Partha Cleric Brown (or a brown of your choice if you want it darker/lighter) onto any areas that will later be done in bone. Chest eagles, skulls and the parchment portions of purity seals

Step 5 - At this stage I have gone in and blacked in any areas that will be black or in the case of the visor have red going over them later on. Chaos Black being the color used.
Step 9 - The next color is NITRO paints Bone. leave portions of the Bleached Bone exposed. Each successive color will cover less overall space. An easy way to do this is just cover about half of the prior color, starting outward and coming back in towards your darker colors.
Step 6 - These next few steps will center around doing the eye visor in a gem like fashion. Leaving the back corners

Step 7 -
Similar to above, I start at the front of the eye and come back over the Sword of Light Red about half way. The color
Step 8 - The first color down on the chest eagle is again Ral Partha Cleric Brown from step 4. Over this I give it a coat of GW Bleached Bone, leaving the brown exposed along the feathers to begin the shading

of the eye Chaos Black, the eye visors get a coat of Ral Partha Blood Red (GW Scab Red). Starting at the front of the eye and coming back about half way over the RP
Blood Red, a coat of Ral Partha Sword of Light red was put down. GW Red Gore will work here as well.
I  use here is Ral Partha Red (GW Blood Red). Bone exposed.

The eye is finished off with 2 dots of paint. Skull white goes in the rear corner, where we left some of the Chaos Black showing.
Blazing Orange is then dotted into the front corner of the eye. This will give the eye visor a gem like look on the table top.
