The Fifth Fortress Event
The first quarter of the year 2007 was a momentos one for the forces of the Unforgiven. The completely revised fourth edition of the Codex Dark Angels was released amidst a unique mix of much expectation, anxiety and even trepidation. There are significant changes in the way the unforgiven forces have been structures. Much debate has ensued as to the efficacy and justification of these changes.
However, much has been revealed in relation to the background of the unforgiven legion and their successor chapters. Superbly sculpted range of miniatures were released along side the new codex. It is said that the first legion leads the way in the new approach to the creation of codexes.
To comemorate these unique changes and the associated increase in interest in the unforgiven chapters, the Fortress of the Unforgiven unveiled its latest competition, THE QUEST ETERNUS.
Unlike previous contests this was planned to be an eternal contest. There were three separate sections that hobbyists could enter which are described in detail. However what made this contest unique is that one could enter it at anytime. The entries were to be judged twice a year, on the 1st of July and the 1st of January and appropriate prizes awarded. Another unique factor was the way the prizes were to be awarded. There was to be one prize for each of the three sections given out at each end point. There was a pool of twelve prizes for each section. The winner simply chooses one out of the twelve prizes. This allowed the winner to select what he likes, be it a book or a model.
Sadly the extremely poor response from the Dark Angels community and the dgeree of time that is required to receive the content, optimise them for the web, add the required pages in the relevant sections as well as in the contest pages and Halls of Honour has meant that this contest was delayed until the end of 2007. Much honours go to the few who persevered with submissions and will be rewarded by the prizes which they have earned. However the lofty ideals of an ongoing contest have drastically gravitated back to mother earth. This has been extremely disappinting as the submission criteria had been simplified to accept existing armies and models.
The Quest Eternus will remain as the Fifth Fortress Competition (2007) and will not be prolonged in to this coming year. |
