INTRODUCTION
Enter with reverance battle brother, for here lies a most secret tome, The Book of the Unforgiven. This sacred tome, has been compiled over millennia based on the battlefield experience of countless great warriors and members of the inner circle. It stands as an adjunct to the holiest tome, The Codex Astartes, compiled by our revered Primarch's Brother, Roboute Guilliman. The Codex Astartes created by the Ultramarines Primarch Roboute Guilliman, after the end of the Horus Heresy dictated the creation of Spacemarine Chapters from the existing legions. Each would have a nominal strength of 1000 battle brothers. Each Spacemarine chapter was designated to have the exact overall structure, with ten companies of one hundred men each. This included one veteran company, four battle companies, two reserve tactical companies, one reserve assault company, one reserve devastator compny and a scout company. Most legions took up this organization in its entirety while some, notably the Dark Angels and the Spacewolves maintained their own variations. Within the unforgiven chapters the First company (Veteran) were the Deathwing, always battling in Tactical Dreadnought Armour. Thier second company was of the Ravenwing, entirely mounted on bikes and land speeders. Beyong this the military structure of the companies remained unchanged from the Codex Astartes.
The battle companies usually form the main portion of any strike force, appropriately reinforced by sub units of the Deathwing, Ravenwing and reserve companies as appropriate. Occasionally, battlefield exigencies dicate the fielding of the entire Deathwing, Ravenwing, Reserve or Scout force. The following force lists for Deathwing, Ravenwing and Battle Company are simple adjuncts to the existing Codex Space Marines and Codex Dark Angels and may be used in normal friendly games with your opponents permission. The force lists for the Reserve and Scout companies are designed to allow one to recreate the rare situation where the entire company may be deployed. They consist of a few new units and a significant change from the Codex: Spacemarines, Codex: Dark Angels and Codex: Unforgiven in that the type of units available to each force list is restricted to imitate their specialised roles. These lists may only be used with the express permission of your opponent. The very nature of the structure of these companies prevent reasonable playbalance if used in normal games. Therefore, the following lists are aimed at those playing "Big Fun Games" of 5,000 points or more, where a detachment from one of the companies listed below may join other standard forces.
The new tome provides the means for greater battlefield flexibility, improved communications and a few new unit and force structures. Use this knowledge wisely, for the enemies of the emperor gather their strength..... and there can be no peace in the galaxy while the Lion sleeps and the Fallen roam free! |
