The nerve center of the entire chapter, the Command Headquarters is located in the Tower of Angels, the Dark Angels floating fortress monastery. This is one of the most enigmatic and secretive command headquarters in the entire Adeptus Astartes. CHAPTER HIGH COMMAND: Following the Horus Heresy, the primarch of Ultramarine legion set about re-ordering the entire Adeptus Astartes. Roboute Guilliman had an exceptional talent for administration and diplomacy combined with a unique insight in to long term objectivity. He was the ideal person to establish the new order, and was so respected by the surviving loyalist primarch that his writings became the foundation of Astartes organization and operations for the next ten thousand years. Every chapter had its own variations but the main structure of each was based entirely on the Codex Astartes, and the Dark Angels chapter is no exception. The Codex Astartes nominally places the strength of the chapter as one thousand battle brothers divided within ten companies of one hundred each. It is a common misconception amongst less informed individuals within the administratum that the entire chapter strength consists of one thousand space marines. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Each of the ten companies is structured to have one hundred space marines. However the chapter headquarters houses a vast number of highly qualified individuals with their own specific skills ranging from the techmarines of the armorium through the astropaths of the librarius to the fleet command. Furthermore many highly decorated command rank officers are contained within the structure of the high command for various purposes. In addition to these additional space marines hundreds of chapter serfs, vassals and servitors serve the chapters' fortress monastery as well as its space fleet and recruitment centers. This section provides an insight in to the highly complex and enigmatic formation and functions of the chapter high command. |
