OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY STRUCTURE
The scout company stands in complete contrast to that of the standard companies. Everything about its structure is different, from the command and control area to the individual squads. This is the company in which space marine novitiates develop their combat experience while awaiting the development of their black carapace which would allow them to wear the more formidable power armour.
Command
The commander of this company functions quite differently to those of the other companies. His is the task of training and teaching the young novitiates and scouts to survive their term and mature in to space marines. In this grueling task, he is assisted by varying number of chaplains, apothecaries and techmarines.
Battle Line Complement
Unlike the other companies the scout company is made up of loose amalgamation of many scout squads. As novitiates pass their initial hurdles, surviving the implantation process and early tests, they are grouped together in to squads. These are of varying sizes of up to ten men in each. Each is led by a sergeant or veteran sergeant who remains with that particular squad until they mature enough to be true space marines. Once that is accomplished, the squad leader moves on to a newer batch of recruits.
Scout squads are armed for ranged warfare, close combat, infiltration, reconnaissance, sniper duties and rapid transit.
Company Armoury
The space marine scout squads rely mostly on transports supplied by the chapter command depending on their required role. They are however supplied with special scout bikes, which are a modified lighter and more silent version of the ubiquitous space marine bike.
Experimental tactics in the use of modified land speeders for the rapid deployment of scout squads are in the early stages of development. |
