Commander of the Apothecarium              Nathaniel
Command Title:                                       Grandmaster Helix Primus
Honorific Title:                                          Healer of the Brave

Overview

The Apothecarium confers images of hospitals and casualties. This is but one aspect of the Apothecarium Medicor. That the brethren attached to this command look after the physical well being of their battle brothers is reflected in the honorific title of Healer of the Brave that is given to the commander. As the chaplaincy nurtures the spirituality of the chapter so the Apothecarium Medicor supports the physical.

Complement

The Grandmaster Helix Primus commands a wide variety of staff to accomplish their numerous duties. These include the following:

Grandmaster Helix Primus          Nathaniel, Healer of the Brave.
Apothecaries                              21 (Including those seconded to the line companies)
Initiates                                      7
Servo Meds                                28

Duties

Medical Care of the Injured
Very similar in approach and structure to the terrestrial hospitals found in many populated worlds, the Apothecarium comes complete with casualty clearance stations, wards, operating theatres and recovery stations. Iso-labs allow the isolation of potentially contaminated of contagious patients. It is capable of treating anything from minor ailments to severe battlefield injuries and sorcerous wounds.

Bionic Implantation
Where the superhuman constitution of the space marine and the advanced technology of the Apothecarium are unable to retrieve an essential organ or limb, bionic implants are utilized to bridge the gap. These implants not only return functionality of a lost organ or limb but can be modified to provide greater abilities than the lost organ or limb.

Gene-seed Management
Perhaps the most important role and one that impinges on the future of the chapter. Managing the retrieved gene-seed from brothers who have died on the field of battle is a complex and tedious task. Ensuring its purity and then preparing it for re-implantation in to potential novitiates is one of their more onerous duties. Care of the implanted novitiate and their well being is considered a sacred duty by the members of the apothecarium.

Battlefield Combat Duties
Apothecaries from this command are seconded out to individual companies, where they serve for protracted periods. They develop a kindred relationship with their brethren, who come to rely on their expertise in the heat of battle. Knowledge of the apothecary's presence not only reassures the battle brothers that they would be cared for in the event of their injury, but also calms them that in the event of their demise their precious gene-seed would be returned to the chapter.

Member of the Inner Circle
This entire section is one attempt to describe the long history of the Dark Angels in a linear form. Every known piece of history and event based on GW publications has been written in my own words and linked together in a reasonably plausible manner by additional fiction. This is in no way the official GW version nor is it in anyway an attempt to infringe on their IP. There are many versions of imperial history buried within the sands of time and this is but just one of them. Read on if you dare!
